guatapé color bomb.

No joke. This sleepy but popular little lakeside town just outside of Medellín is eyegasmic. Just check out the quirky painted facades of all the buildings! What! I walked around and got lost alone for an hour and instead of paying attention to all the people (or where the hell I was going, for that matter), and I couldn’t tear my eyes away from all this colorful goodness of doors and buildings. When I think about it, I must have looked like an idiot – wandering around aimlessly, camera in hand, my mouth hanging open and talking to myself. Anyway, here are a few of my favorites. Just five more weeks before I have to say goodbye to Colombia (for now) and I’m starting to feel the heaviness of having to leave this place…

These colors are insanely beautiful and the composition in these photos are amazing!

medellín.

So I’ve had a little hiatus from blogging. I’m trying to catch up now, so here are a few from a recent weekend trip to Medellín. Despite the (largely misunderstood) reputation of this place, Medellín is easily one of my favorite spots in Colombia. Great people, good food, bustling city streets, a bouncing night life, awesome museums and parks, summery weather, and the cleanest metro I have ever seen make this a place I could easily spend loads of time in. If you ever come to Colombia, definitely go here and see it for yourself. It’s pretty awesome.

cartagena.

Last weekend, Dan and I headed north to the coastal city of Cartagena to rendezvous with his hilarious cousin and her family and have a little mini-vacation, which involved a lot of sunshine, sweating, eating, and lazy, careless moseying…basically my kind of vacation. And all I can say is daaay-um. The colors (and I mean COLORS) that snuck into everything and exploded everywhere were so delicious I wanted to drink them. The architecture, the ceviche, the ice cold beers, the sea breezes, the blended lime-coconut juice (a new favorite), the fresh watermelon, the people watching, and that general, permeating, afro-carribbean-latin flava paired with some great company and good laughs….just…yumminess. No wonder Cartagena is becoming such a popular spot these days. Check it. This is a long one.

Sigh. Isn’t this family dreamy? Yet another irresistibly cool family with two incredibly awesome, funny, intelligent daughters…I swear, cool chicks will inherit the earth. This is one of my favorite family sessions to date.

Oh how I love this crew! Mama Jessica is my husband’s unofficial sister and they have known each other their entire lives. Derek is a hilarious and talented musician (and teacher!) And the two of them have made perhaps the happiest, sweetest, baldest toddler in all the land. With a smile like that, who can resist?? We hung out during an unseasonably warm December afternoon at their neighborhood park in Quincy, Mass.
